Day by Day, Living Life to the Fullest
I have been really busy lately, dealing with my Mom’s Alzheimer’s, etc. It has used a lot of my energy. One thing that it has enforced in me is how important it is for us to live healthy, eat healthy and exercise. Alzheimer’s is now thought to be caused by high cholesteral. If this is really the case, we can absolutely control it through diet and lifestyle.
My Mom was a relatively healthy woman. She walked daily and ate what she thought was a healthy diet. However, her diet was high is cheese and other fats like mayonnaise and rich sauces. She did love vegetables, but she loved her fats. And, she was a sugar addict. He cholesteral spiked many years ago and she took pharmaceuticals for this. She did not, however, change her diet. Now she is in a living hell, losing her mind. Is cheese and rich sauces worth this? Is eating beef worth open heart surgery? Is loving ice cream worth diabetes? There are so many truly healthy alternatives out there, there is no excuse to eat foods that make you unhealthy and shorten your natural life span.
The American diet is killing the populace. The rates of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other major illnesses are spiking more and more each year. It is time to wake up and realize that the foods you have been conditioned to eat and enjoy – your comfort foods passed down through the generations, are killing you.
If you want to enjoy your golden years in good health, you can. But, you must break the cycles of gluttony and laziness. I have been working on my husband to get out and exercise daily. I set the example, but it took more prodding to get him off his butt. He is not overweight and eats fairly healthy. But all of us need exercise to keep our joints flexible, our muscles tones and our blood pumping the way it is supposed to.
Even a car needs to go fast sometimes, to clean itself out. We humans need a full range of movement and aerobic exercise to keep our bodies tuned up. The lessoning of depression, better sleep cycles, loss of weight, and protection from major illnesses is the outcome. What can be better than that?
The best way I know of, to be the healthiest you can be, is to adapt a plant based diet. It can be filling, satisfying, delicious and fun. Change is good. Change is necessary. Get off the meds, get off your butt, stay out of the fast food restaurants and enjoy pure foods. People like me are here to help.
